YouTube Video: Shoot the Girl First, Electro-Metal Surfaces

A new wave of heavy metal is baring its weight in the industry, and has become more popular during the past couple of years.

This wave has to do with electronic music, techno, and dubstep – the same wave of popularity made its way around the world and has seen a large fan increase.

A new wave of heavy metal bands are taking advantage of this, because many of the bass beats used in electronic music are dark in nature – fitting in itself for the dark world of heavy metal.

I haven’t found an official name for it, but I’m coining it “electro-metal,” because it includes all subgenres of electronic music, as various samples are mixed with heavy metal breakdowns and riffs.

Static-X were the first to use this sound in the early 90’s and bring it truly to the surface of the then-underground heavy metal scene.  They beamed with popularity incorporating techno into the breakdown riffs of the heavy thrash metal signature style they pioneered, and perfected.

Shoot the Girl First’s “Last Breath for a Capulet” embodies this much like some of the other bands to go electro-metal, such as The Browning.

I love this song and music video because it is really awesome metalcore, death metal vocals, and maintains a melody, making the electronic music beats dance right in.  This is how a band demonstrates they know how to pull off the electro-metal sound.  There are also great transitions between heavy and clean vocals, and has a heavy bar-chord breakdown, giving it the extra heavy chunk to stand out, so when the techno beats fire up the tempo and the band kicks back in, the music grips a diverse music lover with delight.  Personally, I feel refreshed by this.

Also – the filmography is fantastic and edited very well.  A+ for Shoot the Girl First – \”Last Breath for a Capulet.\”  This is the official video.
